SOME NOTES ABOUT THE MAP |
The map found on the What's New sign was created by Beachgal as a way of visualizing the layout of the town, and includes many places which existed only in the minds of players. Several of the locales had been so frequently referred to by us that even Brent Lessa treated them as real, and so she decided that it was time to "place" them in a larger schema of the town. The original map also included a key, which unfortunately is not available to players. Therefore, I thought some explanation of some of the sites might be helpful. |

Also, Rain City is situated in a real point in space. It is in Washington State, northwest of Seattle (across the Puget Sound) and southeast of Port Townsend. It is surrounded by Mystery Bay State Park, and overlooks Mystery Bay itself, the body of water against which the marina and docks on the east end of town lie. |

THE HAREM TENT: |
Accidentally left off the map when it was moved and never redrawn, the Harem Tent is the home of Bacardi Jim and Beachgal, and used to be the home of Rainbowmom, Okgal, Rose, and K Earth 1. For a long time, the main chat area was as likely to be taking place in the Tent as it was to be the Dampmore lobby. The Harem were frequent entertainers, and many was the celebration or get-together which took place there. The Tent is located on Leaky Dam Road, west of North Main Street, east of KRCB, and directly south of the Feeder Pond, which the Jims use to water their herds of camels and goats. |

DRENCHMOOR SANITARIUM: |
Also accidentally left off the map, Drenchmoor isn't actually in the city proper, but is out at the end of Washaway Beach Boulevard, north of Grey Lake and Mount Thunderhead. Several of Rain City's citizens have benifitted from a brief stay at their cozy confines. |

TOWN SQUARE: |
Although the town square can be seen on the map, it isn't labelled. In the center of the square is a round fountain containing a statue of Chief Rain Cloud, the man whom the original white settlers ripped off for the land on which Rain City now sits. Stone seating around the fountain provides a handy place for downtown employees to eat their sack lunches. |

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL TORRENTS CATHOLIC CHURCH: |
Also visible but unlabelled on the map, OLPT Church is directly south across the street from the County offices, on the same block with Cloud County Jail. OLPT is Father Tim's church, and has been the scene of at least two funerals, and likely to see many more weddings. Behind the church is the cemetary, which conveniently adjoins the prison grounds. |

SOGGY'S MALT SHOP: |
Originally seen as a hang-out for the younger people of Rain City, who couldn't come to the Swizzle Stick to hang with the older characters, Soggy's has become popular among people of all ages, due to the friendly service of waitress Peggy, the delicious Soggy Burgers prepared by owner/cook Gus Kristomides, and their low prices. |

DRIPPY MART: |
Think 7-11, or Quik Trip if you live in the Central Plains area. For purchases other than the typical convenience store items, try Drowned Duck supermarket or Wally World discount store, both located at the west end of 1st Avenue. |
SINGLES BAR: |
Actually called the Slosh and Nosh, it is THE place to meet single men and women for possible companionship. It adjoins a dark alley (which it shares with Spies-R-Us electronics) for those who can't wait to get back to the Dampmore. |
VINYL COUNTDOWN: |
Music store. Although it specializes in old vinyl records and turntable accessories, it also carries a large selection of contemporary CDs and cassettes. It was the locale designated for previewing the latest Natalie Tonebasher single, "Passing like the Wind (Nachos on the Wall)." |
DISMAL WORLD: |
Alan Paulson's theme/amusement park. Besides the usual rides, Dismal World also includes a zoo which contains the town's only vetrinary facilities. Briefly shut down after a safety inspection was ordered by Acting Deputy Mayor Hart Thorin, Dismal World is now ready to go again, and is gearing up for the summer season. |

Another dreary dusk in Rain City. NetScoop Tower dominates the downtown skyline as Mount Thunderhead looms to the north. |
